About me

Melissa Whippo is a clinical social worker who meets with women during pregnancy, after delivery or at any stage of the process from preconception to parenthood. She assesses their support needs, helping them connect with outside therapists, agencies or other organizations. She also co-facilitates the Afterglow, a UCSF support group for new mothers.

A certified yoga instructor, Whippo founded a prenatal yoga program for expectant mothers and teaches weekly classes through UCSF's Great Expectations Pregnancy Program. She also offers support to obstetrics residents and teaches mindfulness meditation to UCSF staff with the goal of mitigating compassion fatigue and burnout.

Whippo has a particular interest in helping women of color, marginalized women and San Francisco's homeless population. She enjoys incorporating yoga and meditation into her work when useful.

Whippo received her master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California.
