About me
Dr. Marc Levin is a neuro-ophthalmologist who cares for patients with vision loss and eye movement disorders resulting from neurological conditions. He treats visual symptoms arising from optic neuropathy (damage to the optic nerve), inflammatory conditions, elevated pressure inside the skull, thyroid eye disease, facial spasms, cranial nerve palsies (dysfunction in certain nerves at the back of the brain), strokes, and tumors of the brain or associated structures, among other conditions. He has expertise in treating strabismus (eye misalignment) with surgery and in using botulinum toxin (Botox) injections to treat facial spasms and double vision.
Focuses of Levin's research include animal models of optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve), therapies to address damage to the ocular surface, and vision therapy using virtual reality technology. He is active in drug development, including clinical trials (studies that use human volunteers to evaluate promising treatments). He serves on the editorial boards of several journals in his subspecialty.
Levin earned his medical degree and a doctorate in biophysics at UCSF. He completed a residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Levin is a fourth-generation San Franciscan. He and his family enjoy hiking, road trips and camping, especially when they stay in family cabins at Lake Tahoe and in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Very knowledgeable. Got right to the point. Proposed possible solutions and decided on a course of action. Informed me that he assumes it will fix the problem but there is a chance that it will scar like the previous operation.

Dr. Levin is extremely personable and kind. He explained everything to me in immense detail and allowed me to ask questions and make my own decision without pressuring me into any treatment. I think he could tell I was nervous so he was very kind and relaxed which helped me relax. He is also very funny which helped lift the tension. I really appreciated his breadth of knowledge and thoughtfulness in making sure I had all the information I needed to make a good decision.
