Dr. Marika Russell is a head and neck surgeon with particular expertise in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. She treats benign and cancerous conditions of the thyroid gland and advanced thyroid cancers that have spread to other parts of the body. She also provides comprehensive evaluations for thyroid and parathyroid conditions, and is an expert in using ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. She has advanced training in nerve monitoring, a state-of-the-art technique for avoiding nerve damage during thyroid surgery.

Russell believes in taking a patient-centered approach to surgical care for thyroid and parathyroid diseases. Committed to compassionate care and excellent outcomes, she values the relationships she develops with her patients and believes that effective communication is an essential component of high-quality surgical care.

Russell's research interests include outcomes and disparities in patients treated for cancerous and noncancerous conditions of the head and neck.

Russell received her medical degree from Columbia University. She completed a residency in otolaryngology at UCSF under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Orloff, a renowned expert in head and neck surgery.

Russell is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, and American Thyroid Association. She is a national leader in educating other doctors in head and neck ultrasound, including as a member of the National Ultrasound Faculty, an ACS program for surgeons and surgical residents.
