About me
Dr. Andrew J. Gross, a rheumatologist, is co-director of the UCSF Scleroderma Center and medical director of rheumatology at UCSF. An expert in caring for people with scleroderma (a condition that causes tightening of the skin and connective tissues) and other complex autoimmune diseases, he enjoys developing long-term relationships with patients and families as he supports them in living full lives with autoimmune diseases. Gross collaborates closely with his rheumatology colleagues and specialists throughout UCSF to provide comprehensive care.
Gross's research investigates of the causes of scleroderma. He collaborates with immunology researchers at UCSF to seek new treatments for scleroderma, which they believe will be discovered by better understanding how cells of the immune system become deregulated.
A native of Washington, D.C., Gross earned his medical degree at Tufts University. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at Tufts Medical Center, where he remained for another year as faculty in rheumatology. In 2003, he joined UCSF and completed a post-graduate fellowship in microbiology and immunology. He joined the UCSF faculty in 2008.
