Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic
The UCSF Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic cares for patients at every stage of HCM, a genetic heart condition characterized by thickening of the heart muscle. HCM affects 1 in 300 people worldwide and is often difficult to diagnose.
HCM can cause life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden death – even in patients who have no symptoms. It's the most common cause of sudden death for young people and athletes, but most people with HCM are symptom-free or experience only mild symptoms.
Our clinic has been named a national Center of Excellence by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association. We are uniquely designed to accommodate patients who travel long distances by coordinating same-day appointments for all testing and clinic visits.
